Vehicle Training Websites in Devon: Driving Schools and Motorcycle Training

A driving school is judged on test pass rates and instructor manner, but it is found through Google. Most enquiries arrive on a phone in the middle of an evening, from a parent or a learner who has just decided to start lessons and wants a price and a callback before they put the phone down. The website has perhaps thirty seconds to do its job. We have built websites for driving schools and motorcycle training centres across Devon — Newton Abbot, Kingsbridge, Exeter — and the design choices come down to the same handful of decisions.

ICE Driving School, Newton Abbot

ICE Driving is one of the more recent rebuilds — a Newton Abbot-based driving school we re-built on Divi 5 with Gravity Forms for enquiries and Stripe for online lesson payments at ice-driving.co.uk. Letting learners pay for their first lesson on the site without a phone call removes the most common point of drop-off. Stripe handles the card processing; Gravity Forms hands the booking detail to the instructor in a single email. The whole flow is mobile-first, because the people booking driving lessons are by definition not yet driving — they are on a phone, often in a passenger seat.

Newton Abbot Driving School

Alongside ICE we also built newtonabbotdrivingschool.co.uk for another Newton Abbot instructor — a separate site for a separate business, optimised for the same local search terms but kept distinct. Two driving schools competing in one town is normal; what matters is that each site is genuinely the school's own, with its own instructor photos, pass-rate page and call-to-book number, rather than a thin clone. The local-SEO work is more about content depth and review presence than keyword stuffing.

Horrells Driving School

Horrells Driving School at horrells.co.uk has been a Newton Abbot client for years. The original brief was a website plus a logo — vehicle businesses often ask for both because the logo ends up on the side of the car as well as on the homepage, and a designer who only does one and not the other will give you mismatched results. We handled both in-house, which kept the sign-writing on the car and the favicon on the browser tab consistent.

A1 School of Motoring and Devon Automatic

A1 School of Motoring at a1-som.co.uk is another Newton Abbot driving school we have worked with — a more compact brochure-style site focused on getting the call rather than offering online booking. Devon Automatic at devonautomatic.com fills the automatic-only niche, which has grown sharply as more learners go straight to automatic-only licences. Both are quick, focused sites — the right answer for a one-instructor business that does not need a complicated platform.

Scott Tibbles Driver Training, Kingsbridge

Scott Tibbles runs driver training courses out of Kingsbridge — South Hams rather than Newton Abbot. The site at scotttibblesdrivertraining.co.uk launched in 2025 and gives the business a proper home on the web rather than a Facebook page. Driving instructors who rely solely on Facebook lose the long tail of search traffic; a small website at the right price closes that gap.

Motorcycle training: BSW Honda and Triumph Training Exeter

Switching to two wheels: BSW Training at bswtraining.co.uk runs the Honda Motorcycle Training Centre in Exeter — a long-established business that came to us for a website refresh that handled course bookings (CBT, A1, A2, full A licence) without the back-and-forth of phone tag. Triumph Training Exeter at triumphtraining.co.uk is the parallel site for their Triumph-branded operation. Motorcycle training has the additional complication of multiple licence categories, age gates and progression paths, and the IA on these sites has to spell that out clearly so the rider arrives knowing what they are booking.

Talk Motorcycles and Kevils Speed Shop

Two motorcycle-adjacent sites round the category out. Talk Motorcycles at talkmotorcycles.com is a multi-author blog for motorcycle enthusiasts — built to give riders a place to write and readers a place to find them. Kevils Speed Shop at kevilsspeedshop.com is a Devon custom-motorcycle builder; their site is a portfolio first and a contact form second, because the work is the marketing. Both prove that the motorcycle category covers a much wider spread than just CBT-and-test schools.

What a vehicle training business needs from a website

Looking across all ten of these projects, the priorities are clear. Click-to-call on every page, on mobile. The phone number is the conversion event for most driving schools. Online booking and payment. Stripe through Gravity Forms takes ten minutes to set up and saves an instructor an hour a day. Real instructor photos. People are choosing who to sit in a car with for forty hours; stock photos are read as a red flag. A pass-rate or testimonial section. The single biggest objection is "will this instructor get me through my test", and the site has to address it. Local SEO done properly. Newton Abbot, Torbay, Exeter, Kingsbridge — these are competitive local search terms and they reward a site that has actually been written for the town it serves.
