The Story Behind 26 Years of Web Design in Newton Abbot

Shout Websites is run by Dominic, and the business has been designing, building, and hosting websites from Newton Abbot since 1998. But the story starts quite a bit earlier than that.

Design, Teaching, and Technology

Before building websites became my career, I spent 15 years as a design teacher in Plymouth and Paignton. Teaching design at that level means understanding visual communication deeply: how layout guides the eye, how typography creates mood, how colour and spacing affect the way people absorb information. Those are not things you pick up from a YouTube tutorial. They become instinct after years of teaching them.

In 1992 I moved into ICT, becoming head of the IT department at a college in Paignton. Running an entire department through the years when the internet was transforming everything gave me a thorough grounding in technology infrastructure, systems architecture, and, just as importantly, how to help people who are not technical understand and use technology confidently.

When I started Shout Websites in 1998, those two threads came together naturally. Design and technology are the two halves of good web design, and having spent decades immersed in both gives me a perspective that shapes everything we build.

26 Years and Still Here

We have been through every era of web design. From the early days of hand-coded HTML tables through Flash websites, the rise of content management systems, responsive design for mobile, and now the latest generation of tools including our own ShoutFast CMS. Through all of that, the fundamentals have not changed: understand what the client needs, design something that communicates clearly, build it properly, and be there when they need help.

That consistency is why many of our clients have been with us for over ten years.

What We Do Today

Today we offer two distinct website platforms. Our ShoutFast CMS produces lightning-fast static websites that score 100 out of 100 on Google PageSpeed. Our WordPress and Divi 5 builds provide the full range of complex functionality including online shops, booking systems, membership areas, and custom applications.

We also build professional WordPress plugins, provide local SEO services, manage hosting infrastructure, and offer website training for business owners who want to manage their own content.
