A trades website has a narrow brief: it has to convince a homeowner who has just had a leak, a wall come down or a quote from somebody who looked shifty that this is the firm to call instead. The decision is usually made on a phone, in a hurry, on the back of three Google searches and a glance at the photo gallery. Over the years we have built websites for builders, plumbers, demolition contractors and heating engineers across Devon — Newton Abbot, Exeter, Torquay, the wider South Hams. This is a tour through those sites and what each one needed.
V3 Building Services, Newton Abbot
V3 Building Services at v3bs.co.uk is one of our longer-running construction clients — a Newton Abbot builder doing extensions, renovations and one-off new builds. The site started as a brochure with a strong photo gallery and a contact form, and has grown over time as the firm has. Builder websites live or die on the project gallery; a written description of "high-quality finishes" tells you nothing, but a before-and-after photograph of a kitchen extension tells you everything you need to decide whether to ask for a quote.
Quoin and Oak Construction — heritage building specialists
Quoin and Oak Construction at quoinandoakconstruction.co.uk is a more specialist build. They focus on heritage building techniques — lime mortar, stonework, traditional carpentry — and the site reflects that with a quieter, more crafted tone than a general-builder website. Their full case study has its own page on our site (we cover the project in detail at the Quoin and Oak Construction case study). Heritage clients pick contractors on craft credentials more than on price, and the site has to demonstrate craft through the work shown.

Contact HereSouth Devon Construction
South Devon Construction at southdevonconstruction.com launched in 2025 as a new branded site — distinct from the wider South Devon construction trade, this is a single firm with a clear regional focus. We worked with their existing branding and supplied imagery to put together a fast, mobile-first site that puts services and contact above the fold. There is a longer write-up at our South Devon Construction case study.
TLS Construct SW
TLS Construct SW at tlsconstructsw.co.uk is another south-west construction firm where the branding came in already designed. That is a useful pattern: when a client has a designer they trust for print and signage, our job is to translate that brand cleanly into a web context — typography, button styles, photography treatment — without reinventing what already works. The result is a site that looks like the rest of the firm's collateral rather than a separate identity bolted on.
Olds Demolition, Exeter
Olds Demolition at oldsdemolitionandsalvage-exeter.co.uk handles demolition and reclamation in the Exeter area. Demolition is a procurement-driven category — most enquiries come from main contractors and developers rather than homeowners — and the site is built around clear evidence of capability: plant list, certifications, project sites covered. A simple, fast site that respects the reader's time gets calls; a flashy site usually does not.
Plumbing and heating: Newton Abbot, Torquay and beyond
Devon plumbing clients form a smaller cluster. South Devon Plumbing at southdevonplumbing.com covers Newton Abbot and the surrounding area. Torquay Plumbing at torquayplumbing.com is Mark Slade's site — a Torquay plumber whose site has run reliably for years. Quick Boiler at quickboiler.co.uk is the boiler-repair-and-replacement specialist site, structured around the two emergency-grade enquiries: my boiler has stopped working, and my boiler needs replacing. Plumbing sites face a particular challenge: most enquiries are urgent, and the visitor is on a phone, possibly standing in a kitchen with water on the floor. Click-to-call has to be everywhere.
What trades and construction firms need from a website
Across all nine of these sites the priorities are similar. A photo gallery that does the selling. Real photos of real jobs, with captions that say where the work was done and what it involved. Click-to-call on every page. The phone number is the conversion. A services list that uses the customer's words. "Boiler repair", "kitchen extension", "loft conversion" — not industry jargon. Local SEO that names the towns served. Newton Abbot, Torquay, Teignmouth, Exeter — naming the towns in the page text and the schema is what gets the firm into the local pack on Google. Mobile-fast pages. Trades visitors are overwhelmingly on phones; a slow site simply loses them to whoever loaded second.
