The old Divi 4 architecture was based on shortcodes — long lines of bracketed tags that WordPress had to interpret on every page load. Divi 5 throws that away and uses a modern React-based framework that produces lean, native WordPress block markup.
For you as the business owner this is a plumbing change rather than a styling change, but the plumbing is what determines how the site performs.
Why it matters for a small Devon business
A few practical knock-on effects:
Faster pages. Divi 5 only loads the code for the modules a page actually uses. The baseline JavaScript file dropped from around 276kb to 45kb.
