Website Management Training for Devon Business Owners
Every site we build comes with a training session. We do not just hand over login details and disappear. This page sets out what we actually teach, who it is for, and how the training fits with the £250 starter site and the £300/month retainer.
Who this is for
This training is for Devon business owners and their staff who want to be able to manage their own website day to day after we have built it. It is not a course for aspiring web designers — there are better routes for that — and it is not aimed at people wanting to build sites for clients. It is for the cafe owner who needs to update the menu, the B&B owner who needs to swap the photos, the trades business owner who wants to add a blog post about a recent job in TQ12.
What we teach
Every site is built on WordPress with the Divi 5 visual builder, hosted on our managed servers. Training covers:
Core WordPress
- Logging in safely (and what to do if you lock yourself out)
- The difference between pages, posts, and the menu
- Adding a new page, including how it appears in the navigation
- Editing existing pages with Divi 5 — point, click, type
- Working with media: uploading photos, basic image editing, alt text, and why alt text matters for search
- Saving, previewing, and publishing changes safely
Posts and content
- Writing a blog post or news update
- Categories and tags — when they help and when they're noise
- Featured images and how they appear on the blog index
- Scheduling posts to publish later
Forms and enquiries
- How Gravity Forms works on your site
- Where the form submissions go (email, dashboard, or both)
- Editing the email confirmation customers receive
- Exporting submissions to CSV when you want them
Plugins and what to avoid
- Which plugins we have installed and why
- Why you should not install plugins you have not asked us about — most WordPress hacks come through dodgy plugins
- How updates happen automatically on the retainer
Optional extras for shop or membership clients
- Adding products to your WooCommerce shop
- Managing stock and orders
- Refunding through Stripe
- For membership sites: Restrict Content Pro basics, member management, content gating
Backing up and what happens if something breaks
- Where the backups live (off-site, daily)
- How to restore — and when to call us instead of trying yourself
- The phone number to ring if something is genuinely on fire (07887 988780)
How the training is delivered
For new clients, training is included with every starter site. We run a one-hour live session — either in person at our Newton Abbot office or on Zoom — and we record it so you can rewatch the bits you need. After the session you have a written cheat-sheet with the five or six things you will actually do most often.
Clients on the £300/month retainer can book follow-up sessions whenever they need them — usually for staff onboarding, a new shop product type, or after a major Divi or WordPress update changes something in the editor.
What we do not teach
- Hand-coding HTML and CSS — for a small business owner, this is not a useful skill investment
- Building sites for clients — that's a different course at a different price point
- "Become a WordPress developer" — go to a proper coding bootcamp for that
