A free screen recorder that runs in the browser and turns any recording into a link you can send. Designed, built and hosted by us in Newton Abbot.
The problem it solves
Explaining something on a screen is far easier to show than to write. The trouble is that the usual route — record a video, find somewhere to put it, upload it, wait, then send a link — is enough friction that most people give up and write three paragraphs instead.
Every tool we looked at wanted something first: an install, an account, a subscription, or a watermark stamped across the result. For a one-minute clip explaining where a button is, that is a lot of ceremony.
What CrocSnap does
It records your screen or your webcam in the browser. Nothing to install and no account to create — you open the page and press record.
It turns the recording into a link. Send it by email, WhatsApp or text, and the person on the other end just watches it. Or save the file to your computer if you would rather keep it.
It is free, with no watermark. No badge burned into the corner of your video, and nothing expiring after seven days.
It runs on Mac, PC and Chromebook, with desktop apps for Mac and Windows for people who would rather have it sitting in the menu bar.
How we built it
CrocSnap runs on the same thinking as the rest of our work: own the platform, own the hosting, and do not rent your business from somebody else's SaaS. There is no per-seat pricing to pass on, because there is no third-party platform underneath taking a cut.
The interface uses a design system we built alongside it — a blue and light-grey “paper” palette with a proper light and dark theme, tuned so that every colour pairing meets accessibility contrast standards rather than merely looking right on one screen. That same system now runs on this website.
Why a web design company builds its own products
Two reasons. The first is that building a real product keeps our skills honest: performance, accessibility, cross-browser behaviour and file handling are much less theoretical when the thing has to work for strangers, at scale, on hardware we do not control.
The second is that it makes us better at your project. The techniques that keep CrocSnap fast are the same ones that get a Devon business's website scoring 100 on Google PageSpeed.
